Leadership Conference (2021) is a thirty-minute short film conceived by visual artist Joshua Kaufman and frequent collaborators, including cinematographer Matthew Kyle Levine, with performances by Michael Chinworth, Coral Maltz, and Zack Booth.
The film explores the subjective nature of experience — particularly of trauma — and the ever-present dissonance between our internal monologues and physical bodies.
Leadership Conference opens with a young man stumbling through the recollection of events leading to a traumatic head injury.
The second scene explores the panic-inducing kind of regret that swells from a loss of control.
Harbored by the austere walls of a nameless hotel, the characters in Leadership Conference exist in their own worlds, unable to navigate beyond their own inner selves, becoming obsessed with — and then ultimately defined by — their own traumas.
